Cleen Tips
Practical ways to keep your home cleaner between visits — from us, and from the Cleenrs who do this for a living. Double-click a tip to like it.
Clean top to bottom
Dust and debris fall as you go, so wipe shelves and counters before you vacuum or mop — otherwise you're just redoing the floor.
1The 2-minute rule
If something takes under 2 minutes — wiping a counter, hanging up a towel — do it the moment you notice it. That's what actually stops mess piling up.
1Descale your kettle monthly
London's hard water builds up limescale fast. A splash of white vinegar left to sit for 30 minutes, then rinsed, keeps it running efficiently.
1Vinegar and water for glass
A 1:1 white vinegar and water solution cuts through streaks on mirrors and windows without harsh chemicals.
1Squeegee your shower after every use
30 seconds with a squeegee after showering stops soap scum and mould building up — far less scrubbing later.
1Wash bedsheets weekly
Dust mites and skin cells build up quickly. Washing at 60°C or higher once a week clears most of it out.
1Declutter before you clean
Put things away first. Cleaning around clutter takes longer and never feels properly done.
1Microfibre over paper towels
A reusable microfibre cloth traps more dust and bacteria than paper towel, and just needs a wash and reuse instead of the bin.
1Descale your showerhead monthly
Mineral buildup clogs the holes and cuts water pressure. Unscrew it (or bag it in place) and soak in white vinegar for an hour to clear it right up.
1Vacuum your mattress every few months
Dust mites and skin flakes build up deep in the fabric where sheets can't reach. A quick vacuum with the upholstery attachment keeps it fresher between deep cleans.
